Half a D-MAX, and it's the front half
The MU-X shares the D-MAX's front end and drivetrain, and is a wagon behind that. It follows the D-MAX generations: the earlier car with the RC/RT, and the current one from 2021 with the RG.
So a listing that says "suits D-MAX and MU-X" is usually telling the truth about a front bar, a bash plate or a snorkel, and usually overreaching about anything else.
What crosses and what doesn't
- Crosses often: front bars, underbody protection, lighting brackets, snorkels, front suspension components.
- Doesn't cross: rear bars, roof racks and platforms, rear suspension, storage, tow bars, anything body-side.
The rear is the important one. The MU-X carries coil rear suspension and a wagon body; the D-MAX is a leaf-sprung ute. Rear load-carrying products for one have nothing to do with the other, and this is where cross-shopping goes wrong most expensively.
The 2021 change was a real generation change
The current MU-X arrived with the RG D-MAX platform in 2021. Front-end protection, brackets and body-mounted parts are all generation-specific.
What to give the retailer
The build date and the generation, and say it's an MU-X rather than a D-MAX explicitly — the two get merged in listings written from a supplier's catalogue.
